Running your own craft business involves so much more than creating work. Our Starting Out pages introduce the organisations we think are most beneficial to new makers, as well as finding the opportunities most suited to you. We also provide details of professional bodies and societies you might like to join, and advice on selling your work.
Here you will find a list of the organisations, websites, charities, shows and directories that have great resources if you are getting started, or at any stage in your career.
Here you will find a list of opportunities which we think are particularly suited to new makers, or those just getting started in business. You can also check our our full list on our opportunities pages.

Craft Scotland is delighted to be working in partnership with the Crafts Council to bring Hothouse to makers based in Scotland. The programme runs annually, and here you can find out how and when to apply.
Are you in the market for a studio, looking for something with more resources, or need to get off the kitchen table? Find the organisations who provide studio space for makers, live opportunities for available studios and information about open studio events you can participate in.
Here we have listed details of upcoming opportunities for funding, as well as annual and regional grants and awards.
New Designers is the annual major design and craft graduate exhibition in London, often considered the UK's most important exhibition for emerging design. Even if you haven't exhibited at New Designers as a graduate, you can still exhibit at One Year On, a high-profile, focused feature within New Designers, showcasing designers with an entrepreneurial flair in their first year of business.
Find out how you can further your craft education and business with these continuing professional development courses from our partner organisations, including details of the Hothouse programme from the Crafts Council: their intensive and prestigious development programme for emerging makers.
Craft Scotland have put together these pages based on organisations we have worked with or resources we have been made aware of through our work with makers. We want these pages to act as a signpost for makers, instead of repeating information our partners have worked hard to collate and provide. If you are a member of an organisation, part of a company, or know of a useful resource that we do not have listed here, please get in touch to let us know about it.
