About Me

Personal Statement

BA (Hons) Degree in Ceramics: Edinburgh College of Art, 1991-94
M.Phil: University of Sunderland, 2006-2010
My main focus is on one-off ceramic pieces for exhibition. I have exhibited widely throughout the UK, and in mainland Europe and North America. Other activities include national and international residencies, private and public commissions, collaborative projects, teaching and writing for publication. In 2010 I completed a post-graduate degree (M.Phil.) researching ceramics and tourism. My work is now more research based, and focused on specific projects in a series over a period of time.
There are multiple layers and processes in the work. Earthenware forms are built by hand. Layers of coloured slip are brushed on, then mono-printing, screen-printing or lino printing and stencilling are used to apply the first layers of text and/or image. Commercial glazes are used, and transfers are applied to the fired glaze. Photographs, drawings and text are manipulated in Photoshop to be made into transfers.
Current work explores museum taxidermy collections.
