Jane Keith produces hand-printed textiles from studios in Dundee and North Fife.
She is best known for her contemporary range of hand printed ties. She also produces large colourful hand painted silk wall hangings to commission or for specific exhibitions.
The ties are produced using the highest quality silk, and entirely hand printed or hand painted to exacting standards, mainly using acid dyes. Each piece is completely unique.
The designs themselves are drawn from mainly natural influences, such as the Western Isles of Scotland. The ever changing horizon lines, landscapes and seascapes are some of the main recurring influences used to create simple patterns, stripes and seasonal colour schemes. The ties have a strong client following and are regularly seen on TV presenters, celebrities, actors and politicians around the globe.
The wall hangings are large vibrant abstract investigations of research explored in various areas. They are built up using a complex layering process of different dyes, pigments and processes, combining cutting edge technology with traditional applications.
Jane Keith qualified as a Bachelor of Design in Printed Textiles from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, and has worked there as a lecturer for the past nine years. Her firmly Scottish-based design company has gained momentum steadily since inception in 1997 with wide exhibition and trade show experience, in the UK, Europe and USA.
