“Succulent.......Reubenesque.......pleasingly plump, curvaceous nudes who will make themselves at home anywhere......humorous in an understated way......Bums!”
Following college, the female form became a vehicle in sculptural ceramics for the exploration of colour and materials. Hand-built in a variety of clays, small pieces begin as enclosed pinch pots while larger pieces are coil-built. Now attempting to work on a bigger scale, higher firing clays are used, rendering the work frost resistant. Coloured slips and metal oxides enhance the peaks and troughs. Firing ranges from 1100oC to 1220oC. Oil pastels and wax finish the piece.
Having recently moved in to a WASPS studio in Paisley, I've taken the bull by the horns and gone full time into ceramics. Three sessions of teaching in my space each week keeps me fresh with ideas.
Current work also includes Raku Boxes and porcelain angels.
