One of John's principal aims in his work is to try to make pots that have not been made before. His pottery studio is a joy to visit, and his enthusiasm for his subject shines through. With his background in sculpture, his ceramics reflect his interest in form and texture and display a high degree of craftsmanship. This is a must visit studio.
The most recent work draws on his formative years in Cornwall where he trained and worked in the 1960s and early 70s. That said, John says that living in Orkney since 1985 has been all important to how his work has developed. He has now begun to explore those earlier days and points out how he and many others can benefit from the Collection of St Ives art in the beautiful galleries at the Pier Art Centre in Stromness. He was privileged to have known so many of those artists that (unknowingly) contributed to the Collection in those far off days and feels that so much of it is relevant today. Another place to visit!
John's work is very much at home in contemporary settings and is represented in many notable private collections worldwide. Commissions are welcome and shipping is arranged globally.
