The Stitchery is a family owned sewing studio. It is a place to make, to learn and to relax. It is the home of practical courses and workshops taught by respected designers and artists.
Our regular courses cover a variety of subjects, including the basics of sewing, dressmaking and design and quilting. From month to month we also host a range of weekend and evening workshops on crafts such knitting, darning, cushion making and other creative subjects.
One-to-one tuition is available on a one-to-one basis or for small groups, and is tailor made to suit your needs.
The studio environment and the teaching style are informal and relaxed, making The Stitchery a welcome break from the busyness of life. And you don't have to worry about bringing your own sewing machine, unless you really wish to, as we have enough of them here to provide for even our largest of classes.
The Stitchery was founded in 2011 by Cassandra Belanger and her husband Matthew. Cassandra, a Canadian by birth and upbringing, is the resident instructor at the studio and currently teaches the majority of our courses. With a background in fashion design, she has always had a desire to teach and to share with others her love of sewing and related crafts. A love she has carried from a young age.
When not teaching, Cassandra works as a freelance designer, taking commisions from individuals and organisations alike. Most recently she has become a regular contributor to Cloth Magazine, with some of her garments appearing on the front cover and other do-it-yourself projects appearing within.
