Making Silver Jewellery – Three-day Summer Workshop
Studio 8 Jewellery Workshop, Fire Station Creative, Carnegie Drive, Dunfermline, Fife KY12 7AN 

Learn a variety of jewellery making techniques and make a unique piece of silver jewellery in this three-day summer workshop. This course will cover basic stone setting techniques for those interested as well as textural and forming techniques. Suitable for beginners or those wishing to further their skills.

For beginners the first day will be spent learning and exploring basic techniques such as: 

  • Saw Piercing 
  • Drilling 
  • Filing 
  • Creating Textures 
  • Embossing techniques
  • Doming and Forming techniques 
  • Soldering
  • Surface finishes 

You will practice various techniques, producing copper samples and exploring ideas.

On the second day you can continue exploring or make a simple piece of jewellery with a stone setting.

By day three you will work on your main piece of silver jewellery incorporating some of the techniques covered.

For those of you who are returning with existing jewellery making skills, you can work on your own projects or continue to develop your skills and knowledge by following the structured sessions.

More advanced techniques could include: 

  • Tube Setting
  • Claw setting 
  • Etching
  • Fusing

Classes are small to ensure everyone gets plenty of individual tuition.

This course will be taught by Caroline Finlay who has many years experience teaching a wide range of jewellery techniques in further education.

The cost for this course is £190 which includes everything except silver, estimated at between £5 and £20, depending on the scale of the piece.
